Standard Job Description

The Rotary Mission Systems (RMS) AI Hub team, within Lockheed Martin's Data & AI Enablement (D&AE) organization, creates tailored, production-grade AI solutions that enable the functions and lines of business across RMS. The team's core capabilities span descriptive data analysis, predictive machine learning, and cognitive AI products - including computer vision, natural language processing, and generative AI. As an intern, you will work alongside AI engineers to support the development of machine-learning pipelines, explore large-language-model (LLM) capabilities, and contribute to projects that accelerate AI value realization within the business area. This role is an opportunity to build hands-on experience with Python, the data-science lifecycle, and emerging AI technologies while contributing to real, mission-relevant work for RMS and Lockheed Martin.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in translating RMS requirements into AI-driven solution concepts under the direction of senior team members.
  • Support the building and testing of LLM and AI model integrations into existing RMS applications.
  • Help create and execute test plans and participate in integration testing.
  • Assist with documenting designs and project work to support team knowledge-sharing.
  • Participate in code reviews and team meetings to learn best practices for production-grade AI development.

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, AI/ML, or a related discipline (rising sophomore, junior, or equivalent standing).
  • Working knowledge of Python - able to write clean code and explain your logic.
  • Coursework or self-directed exposure to data-science concepts, such as statistics, algorithms, or introductory machine learning.
  • Basic awareness of Generative AI capabilities such as large-language models (LLMs).
  • Demonstrated initiative and research mindset - comfortable navigating documentation, exploring new tools, and proposing ideas with minimal supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills; able to work with team members to understand tasks and provide clear status updates.

Desired Skills

  • Coursework or personal projects involving LLM frameworks or APIs (e.g., LangChain, OpenAI, Cohere).
  • Ability to quickly absorb new tools, applications, or approaches from documentation or public repositories and contribute ideas to the team.
  • Curiosity-driven mindset - interest in researching new AI/ML techniques and sharing findings with peers.

Pay Information

GeoZone Definition: GeoZones are geographic groupings created by Lockheed Martin to align compensation ranges with regional labor markets and cost-of-labor differences across the United States. Locations are assigned a Geo Zone based on the primary work location of the role. 

  • Full-time salary range (GEOZONE 1): $33.51 - $38.71 
    • Includes metropolitan areas such as Sunnyvale CA; Pal Alto, CA; New York City metropolitan area; Newark, New Jersey; etc.
  • Full-time salary range (GEOZONE 2): $30.16 - $34.84 
    • Includes metropolitan areas such as Denver, CO; King of Prussia, PA; Stratford, CT; Moorestown, NJ; etc.
  • Full-time salary range (GEOZONE 3): $26.81 - $30.97
    • Includes metropolitan areas such as Dallas–Fort Worth, TX; Orlando, FL; Grand Prairie, TX; Marietta, GA; etc.
  • Full-time salary range (GEOZONE 4): $24.37 - $28.15
    • Includes metropolitan areas such as Camden, AR; Lexington, KY; Lufkin, TX; etc.

  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
