Standard Job Description

The Fleet Ballistic Missile Avionics team is seeking an experienced Battery Engineer who will work as a delegate to the Battery Certified Principal Engineer (CPE) and the sub system Responsible System Engineers (RSE) to develop preliminary concept models of space flight avionics hardware and ultimately advance them for flight use.

 

Location:  This position does not support teleworking. You will need to live near our Lockheed Martin Space Englewood facility and be expected to work a flexible 9x80 schedule in the office full-time. 

 

What does this role look like?  

You will support multiple batteries powering two systems in the D5LE2 Trident Missile development program. As a Battery Engineer, you will be the technical authority, working in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) organizational structure providing technical data for informal and formal design review documentation and presentations. 

 

Key activities you will accomplish in this role:

  • You will coordinate with integration and test, requirements and verification, subcontracts, reliability, EMC, and survivability team members ensuring compliant designs developed with venders.
  • These positions will be responsible of providing producible designs that meet technical, cost, and schedule requirements, and work within the systems.
  • Designs and develops circuits used in electronic devices.
  • Responsible for layout and mask design, device evaluation and characterization, test box design, prototype construction and checkout, and determination of wafer fabrication processes.
  • Prepares test methods and specifications; analyzes equipment to establish operating data and conducts experimental tests; provides finished device approval; and prepares customer application information.

 

To be effective in this role, you will need:

  • One year of general engineering experience working in a regulated industry like Aerospace, Defence, Medical or similar.

 

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor of Science or higher from an accredited college in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education.

One year of general engineering experience working in a regulated industry like Aerospace, Defence, Medical or similar.

Willing and able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance, thus US Citizenship is required

 

Desired Skills

  • Avionics Design Experience 
  • ECAD Experience
  • Previous Experience designing, integrating or testing batteries 
  • Lithium Ion Battery Experience 
  • Working knowledge EPDM tools or equivalent
  • Exposure to DFx Principles (Design for Affordability, Design for Manufacturability, etc.)
  • Experience with CAD tools and/or 3D printing/prototyping
  • Experience with CREO CAD modeling and Zuken
  • Missile/Aerospace related experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to communicate issues and additional resource needs to leadership
  • Experience with subcontracted hardware suppliers
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment and with adjacent disciplines
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with technical and non-technical audiences including design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, etc.)
  • Hands-on hardware experience
  • ​Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $91200.00 - $169400.00
