The Opportunity

Eligibility: Applicants must be Australian citizens and be eligible to obtain and maintain an active Australian Government Defence security clearance at the level required for the position.

 

Join the ground-breaking SouthPAN Program and lead the delivery, implementation and continuous improvement of technical publications supporting a nationally significant defence capability. Working in an agile environment alongside Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) leads, project teams and customers, you'll provide technical leadership and expert advice on the development and sustainment of operator and maintenance publications across mission and support systems. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a strategically important program while further developing your expertise in technical publications, complex systems and integrated logistics.

 

SouthPAN is a Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS) comprising reference stations, telecommunications infrastructure, computing centres, signal generators and satellites that provide enhanced positioning and navigation services across Australia, New Zealand and their maritime regions.

 

This job is based in Uralla, NSW but we are open to applicants working from NSW, ACT, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia who are open to travel.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the authoring, development and implementation of Technical Publications (Operator and Maintenance Manuals) in support of the SouthPAN capability.
  • Provide guidance and support to project management, ILS leads, project staff and customers on all technical documentation activities.
  • Plan, coordinate, develop, maintain and amend technical publications to support the delivery and sustainment of the SouthPAN capability.
  • Oversee and support the distribution of SouthPAN publications in accordance with project milestones and delivery requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with project teams to estimate, establish, develop and continuously improve the technical publications capability.
  • Develop clear, accurate and user-focused technical documentation, including operational, maintenance and support publications for complex systems and equipment.
  • Gather, validate and interpret technical information from engineers, subject matter experts, technical standards, specifications and other source data.
  • Review, update and maintain existing publications to ensure content remains accurate, compliant, current and fit for purpose.

 

What you’ll bring

  • Significant professional experience in a technical authoring role, including writing, editing and maintaining complex technical documentation.
  • Experience with Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs).
  • Proven experience identifying technical illustrations and graphics to clearly communicate technical concepts and information.
  • Significant experience in technical publication configuration management, supported by strong information technology and administrative skills.
  • Significant experience working within engineering and/or maintenance environments, preferably within the defence industry.
  • Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice.

 

Desirable

  • Familiarity with DEF (AUST) 5629C
  • Knowledge of Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) disciplines, including Logistics Engineering, Maintenance Engineering and Training Development.
