Join AIR6500, the RAAF’s $3 billion program delivering a fully networked joint air battle management system that will transform situational awareness, synchronise air and missile defence, and accelerate decision-making across joint and coalition environments.

In this role, you’ll play a key part in delivering and evolving Technical Publication products, coordinating the development, maintenance and revision of Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) technical documentation across mission and support systems. Working in an agile environment alongside ILS leads, project teams and customers, you’ll provide expert advice on technical publication authoring while helping ensure critical information is accurate, accessible and fit for purpose. This is an opportunity to contribute to a strategically important defence capability while building your expertise in complex systems, technical publications and integrated logistics.

This opportunity is based at Mawson Lakes, SA.

Key responsibilities

• Develops clear, concise and accurate technical documentation, including procedure manuals, service manuals and related technical publications covering the installation, operation and maintenance of electronic, electrical, mechanical and other equipment.
• Develops and maintains operational specifications, technical bulletins, articles and other supporting publications as required.
• Gathers and validates technical information through consultation with engineers, subject matter experts and personnel involved in product development, maintenance and service activities.
• Reviews and interprets technical source material, including engineering drawings, specifications, sketches, notes, production methods and relevant technical standards.
• Observes equipment, processes, experiments and methods of operation to develop an accurate understanding of technical requirements and procedures.
• Reviews, updates and revises existing technical publications to ensure content remains accurate, current, clear and fit for purpose.
• Collaborates with engineering, maintenance and other technical personnel to translate complex technical information into clear, user-focused documentation.
• Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice.

What you’ll bring

• Substantial experience applying structured authoring principles, using the EAGLE LPD & EPS S1000D development environment.
• Familiarity with DEF (AUST) 5629C, DEF (AUST) IPS-5630 and the S1000D specification.
• Substantial experience working within engineering and/or maintenance environments, preferably within the defence industry.
• Substantial experience delivering S1000D projects using XML and a Common Source Database (CSDB) to develop Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETPs).
• Proven experience identifying technical illustrations and graphics to clearly communicate technical concepts and information
• Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice.
