About the role
The Computer Systems Administrator helps maintain smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network administrators. Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources. Provides on-going operations and maintenance of Information Technology (IT) equipment and software, sets up administrator and service accounts, system performance tuning, update installations, and maintenance of system configuration/installation documentation. Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation and provides backup recovery. Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products.
Key Responsibilities:
• Participate in daily briefing with the end-user to provide status of the systems
• Perform on-site System Administration support to the end-user personnel and assist the end-user engineers with administering the system
• Perform System Administration tasks for routine, emergency, test and exercise events in accordance with Technical Manuals, Operating Instructions, and checklists.
• Perform user account maintenance to include the creation, management, and deletion of user and group accounts, profiles, and policies.
• Perform On-The-Job-Training (OJT) and one-on-one assistance on the systems
• Perform active monitoring of mission systems’ operational performance and link status to detect issues that may cause disruption of services
• Perform data collection (including application, system, and security logs) of any unexpected service disruption and upon request provide data to the end-user to support deficiency resolution and post event forensics.
• Perform error detection and fault correction of the systems
• Perform backups and archive of the systems in accordance with Technical Manuals, Operating Instructions, and checklists.
• Perform recovery and restoration of the systems in accordance with Technical Manuals, Operating Instructions, and checklists.
• Perform startup, reboots, and shutdown of the systems in accordance with Technical Manuals, Operating Instructions, and checklists.
• Record scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities using the approved tracking system.
• Support remote site maintenance activities to include scheduled and corrective actions
• Perform troubleshooting and resolution of emergent system issues
• Perform technical assistance, guidance and on job training to end-user engineers in identifying system problems, analysis, system coding and test verification
• Perform technical assistance in documentation and management of system problem reports.
• Support similar OM&S activities for OPs and Lab environments
Required skills, qualifications and experience
- Bachelors degree (BS/BA) in IT, Information Security, Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering or MIS related field.
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage own time to meet program needs
- Problem determination & resolution
- Good IT skills in a range of SW packages would be an advantage
