Standard Job Description
WHAT WE’RE DOING At Lockheed Martin, we are driven by innovation and integrity. We believe that by applying the highest standards of business ethics and visionary thinking, everything is within our reach – and yours as a Lockheed Martin employee. Lockheed Martin values your skills, training, and education. Come and experience your future!
THE WORK This Engineering Aide position will support our advanced composite manufacturing operations across both development and production execution phases. Specifically, this role will provide critical technical and hands-on support for Solid Rocket Motor (SRM) development and production, support for various other composite windings, conventional radome composite layups, and support to include Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) V-tail development and production.
In this role, you will assist Manufacturing Engineers in translating design data (manufacturing drawings, Bills of Materials, CAD models, and industry specifications) into clear, executable manufacturing instructions and visual "how-to" guides for production personnel. You will utilize PTC Windchill to look up and analyze design documents, technical drawings, and 3D models, and leverage SAP as a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to manage shop floor operations and maintain build traceability.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
- Manufacturing Execution & Technical Support: Provide daily hands-on floor support and troubleshooting to manufacturing personnel during prototype, development, and production builds of complex composite windings and layups.
- Instruction & Data Management: Extract design data from PTC Windchill and assist engineers in developing and updating written work instructions, process plans, and graphical aids in SAP MES. Verify BOM accuracy and reconcile discrepancies.
- Cross-Functional Liaison: Serve as a direct link between the shop floor, Manufacturing Engineers, Hardware Engineers, Quality Engineers, and Operations to resolve day-to-day build challenges, document non-conformances, and keep programs on cost and schedule.
- Process Improvement & DFM: Partner with engineering to review designs for buildability, identify required tooling/fixtures, and capture lessons learned during development transitions to full-rate production.
To be successful in this role, you should be a highly motivated individual with extensive hands-on composite manufacturing experience, a deep familiarity with both development and production environments, and a desire to solve day-to-day challenges within our manufacturing operations.
Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics). Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data. Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports. May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment, with familiarity in both development and production execution.
- Demonstrated experience in composite manufacturing, specifically with composite filament windings and/or composite layups.
- Proficiency using SAP as a Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
- Ability to navigate, look up, and interpret design document data (blueprints, technical drawings, specifications, and 3D CAD models) using PTC Windchill.
- Proven experience interfacing and collaborating directly with Manufacturing Engineers as well as various other engineering disciplines to resolve technical issues.
Desired Skills
- Direct prior experience supporting Solid Rocket Motor (SRM) manufacturing, Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) programs, radome composite layups, or FLRAA V-tail structures.
- Experience drafting or redlining technical work instructions and visual build guides using 2D/3D CAD software (such as CREO) and graphics software (such as CorelDRAW).
- Knowledge of Continuous Improvement / Lean Manufacturing principles, root-cause analysis, and corrective action processes.
- Familiarity with aerospace quality standards (e.g., AS9100/ISO 9001), composite curing processes (autoclave/oven), and handling of composite raw materials.
