Standard Job Description
The Aeronautics Sustainment IT Product Owner is responsible for defining, prioritizing, and delivering product value for a suite of mission critical information technology (IT) applications that support the end to end sustainment life cycle of Lockheed Martin’s Aeronautics platforms. These applications power key business processes—such as logistics, maintenance planning, parts provisioning, and compliance tracking—and are leveraged across internal stakeholders and external LM customers to meet sustainment commitments.
Acting as the voice of the customer and the business, the Product Owner will work closely with a Scrum Master and development team, stakeholders, and leadership to translate vision into clear, actionable product backlog items. The role balances strategic thinking with day to day execution, ensuring that each increment aligns with business objectives, IT standards, and user needs.
Success in this position influences aircraft availability, mission readiness, and customer satisfaction for the global LM sustainment portfolio.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Product Vision & Strategy - In partnership with IT leadership and functional stakeholders develop and maintain the product vision, align it with organizational goals, and communicate it to the team and stakeholders.
- Backlog Management - Create, maintain, and prioritize the product backlog; write clear, concise user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Stakeholder Collaboration - Gather requirements, facilitate workshops, and manage expectations across business, technical, and compliance groups.
- Iteration Planning - Participate in sprint planning, review, and retrospective ceremonies; ensure the team has a well groomed backlog each sprint.
- Project Planning and Initiation - Work with Product Management team and stakeholders to develop estimates and initial project plans (capabilities definitions, resource requirements, milestones, dependencies and risks) for new efforts.
- Value Delivery - Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and success metrics; make data driven decisions to maximize ROI.
- Risk & Dependency Management - Identify and mitigate risks, identify and manage dependencies, and identify / resolve impediments that affect delivery.
- Financial Management - Establish baseline budget spread for authorized projects and then manage resources and scope to maintain compliance with project budgets. Assist leadership with monthly changes to financial projections.
Participates with customers to formulate and implement enterprise-wide business, organization and information technology strategies. Work with customers to help conceptualize means to apply information technology as a strategic asset. Involved in the process of designing and delivering integrated business and information solutions to support the enterprise's accomplishment of business goals.
Basic Qualifications
- Agile Framework Experience - Experience working in and/or leading agile teams
- Strong communication skills to engage business owners, engineers, and senior leadership.
- Ability to understand technical concepts & architecture enough to converse effectively with developers.
- Ability to identify risks and dependencies and develop mitigation plans.
- Demonstrated experience gathering and translating user feedback into product improvements.
Desired Skills
- Experience using JIRA for managing teams backlog and reporting team progress metrics against milestones and objectives
- Proven ability to write user stories, define acceptance criteria, and prioritize.
- Agile Product Owner, Scrum Master, or related experience assisting with similar roles on teams.
- Experience with the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) Product Backlog Management
- Agile Certifications (ex: Scrum Master, Product Owner, Product Manager)
- Domain knowledge in Aeronautics Sustainment (IT Solutions or Business Processes)
- Strong Project Management skills
- Financial Management Experience
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $72500.00 - $134600.00

- For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
