At the Skunk Works, our Computational Electromagnetics (CEM) Codes & Tools team is expanding and playing a pivotal role in our Digital Transformation development roadmap. We are seeking a mid-career CEM software developer to join our team. This role is critical in driving our Digital Transformation (DX) efforts forward through enabling and integrating state-of-the-art CEM and DX tools. This expertise will enable us to design, develop, and optimize cutting-edge systems and technologies, giving us a competitive edge in the industry. This role will fill a capability vacancy and provide critical help in:

 
(1) CEM algorithm research and development;
(2) implementation, maturation, and integration of CEM algorithms in established code bases;
(3) testing and benchmarking of new code components and algorithms;
(4) software documentation and training;
(5) deploying, tuning, and performance optimization of complex software to high-performance computing environments as well as standard engineering workstations
(6) supporting adoption and integration of CEM codes and tools into the broader DX roadmap

YOUR IMPACT
As a Senior CEM Developer with our Skunks, you will find yourself helping engineer high-quality state-of-the-art electromagnetic solvers and contributing to all phases of the development process, including the design, test, release, deployment, user support, and maintenance of CEM codes and tools. You will also be uniquely positioned to build relationships and cross collaborate with other junior and senior software developers, CEM codes and tools users, Information Technology (IT) and computer administrators (Admins), and management and leadership personnel through collaborative Digital Transformation efforts.The software developer’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Research and evaluate current, evolving, and new CEM algorithms
• Design and implement parallel and scalable software programs that take advantage of High Performance Computing (HPC) environments
• Establish software test requirements, write test documentation, and identify root causes of software failures and associated corrective actions
• Perform new CEM code testing, verification, validation, and optimization
• Perform numerical and physical benchmarking of new code components and algorithms
• Deploy CEM codes to isolated local and program environments [including workstations and HPCs] and ensure codes run properly and efficiently

Performs scientific experiments, investigations, observations and related research studies into the nature and operation of natural phenomena in a particular field, using the scientific methods. Develops theories for understanding, characterizing and organizing natural phenomena into a systematic and meaningful pattern for the benefit of project advancement and emerging technologies. May participate in intellectual property evaluations and development of patent applications. May coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts.

Basic Qualifications

- PhD degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computational or Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physics
- Strong background in Computational Electromagnetics (as a developer)
- Background in Radar Cross Section (RCS), or understanding of electromagnetic scattering from complex targets
- Expertise with MPI and OpenMP parallel programming
- Proficiency with scientific computing programming languages, particularly Modern Fortran, C, and/or C++
- Ability to obtain Top Secret Clearance

Desired Skills

- 1+ years of experience in Computational Electromagnetics software development as part of a small development team
- Experience with integral equation methods
- Strong background in numerical linear algebra
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, bash)
- Experience developing software in Linux environments
- Strong communication skills, a results-oriented team player, creative thinker and problem-solver
- Follows all ethical standards of the Lockheed Martin Corporation
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to thoroughly document code, investigative studies, user and theory manuals, etc.
- Good organization skills to balance and prioritize work, and ability to multitask
- Familiarity with HPC environments, supercomputing, and related technologies
- Experience with a variety of software build/install tools (e.g., CMake, Makefile)
- Experience with the Git version-control system
- Familiarity with coding standards, unit testing and configuration management
- Strong ability to analyze, debug and maintain the integrity of an evolving code base

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $98100.00 - $182100.00

  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
