What you will be doing
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics is seeking an Experienced Electrical Engineer Sr Staff with a background Photonics and/or Fiber Optics to serve as the Photonics/Fiber Optics Integration Lab (PFOIL) Hardware Design Lead overseeing a team of fiber optics engineers, technicians, and Man-in-the-Loop (MITL) and Hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) hardware engineers. The qualified candidate will be responsible for overseeing the PFOIL and MITL/HITL hardware engineering teams, driving technical direction, prototyping and designing both fiber optics and hardware solutions for our customers, and ensuring compliance with LM Aero quality standards.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading a team of hardware engineers to design, develop, and document photonics/fiber optics and hardware schematics, 2D drawings, parts lists, and configuration control for lab equipment.
- Driving technical direction and growth for the PFOIL
- Perform systems requirements analysis, estimation, and EVMS status coordination to meet cost and schedule targets.
- Coordinate procurement, vendor engagement, and fabrication liaison for power distribution and avionics interfaces.
- Overseeing photonics/fiber optics and hardware design checkout, utilizing equipment such as Optical Backscatter Reflectometry (OBR), Optical Interferometers, etc.
- Coordinating with Build Leads and Quality Assurance teams to ensure products are being built to design specifications and meeting quality standards

This position is located at a facility that requires special access. The selected candidate must be able to obtain a secret clearance.

Basic Qualifications
- Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a closely related STEM field
- Hands-on experience working with and designing photonics/fiber optic solutions
- Experience in leading a team, monitoring project timelines, and guiding complex photonics/fiber optics solutions
Desired Skills
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Electrical Engineering, or closely related STEM field
- Experience designing, troubleshooting, and/or building fiber optics for military aircraft
- Experience with designing man-in-the-loop (MITL) and/or hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) simulation products
- Experience developing complex/innovative photonics/fiber optics solutions
- Experience with Optical Backscatter Reflectometry (OBR), Optical Interferometers, and other fiber optics related measurement devices
- Experience applying Earned Value Management System (EVMS) methodologies
- Strong mentoring track record with junior, mid-career, and staff level engineers
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $129000.00 - $239600.00

- Annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs may be offered depending on the position. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics.
- For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
