Standard Job Description

Plans, conducts, and coordinates software development activities. Designs, develops, documents, tests, and debugs software that contains logical and mathematical solutions to business/mission problems or questions in computer language for solutions by means of data processing equipment. Applies the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the development life cycle. Applies knowledge of computer hardware and software, subject matter to be programmed in business/mission applications, information processing techniques used, and information gathered from system users to develop software. Corrects program errors, prepares operating instructions, compiles documentation of program development, and analyzes system capabilities to resolve questions of program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls. Ensures software standards are met.

The Skunk Works (Lockheed Martin Advanced Development Programs) is looking for world-class talent in Software Engineering to be a part of a team that will carry on our 80-year tradition of making history in advanced aircraft development. The vehicle management software team writes software for a wide range of aircraft subsystems that enable flight.  We are a highly innovative, multi-site, fast-paced team developing modular and reusable software to support both our current platforms and the aircraft of the future.  This position will operate out of the Fort Worth, TX location but will work closely with colleagues located in Palmdale, CA.

 

What's In It For You

This position offers the opportunity for an experienced professional to provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior developers while guiding the team throughout the full software development lifecycle. You'll work at the intersection of software engineering and product ownership, guiding the development of critical simulation tools that enable aircraft system validation and testing. This role provides significant influence over technical strategy and the chance to mentor the next generation of software engineers. This position will be on-site in Fort Worth with a flexible work schedule. You'll collaborate with a diverse, inquisitive team located in Fort Worth and Palmdale.

 

Your Impact

You will provide technical leadership for simulation software development and serve in a product owner capacity for key software initiatives. Responsibilities include:

- Providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level developers

- Leading Agile processes for software development teams

- Defining and prioritizing feature backlogs and development roadmaps

- Ensuring software documentation standards and versioning control best practices

- Collaborating with systems engineers to translate requirements into simulation specifications

- Leading software integration and test efforts for simulation tools

- Serving as technical liaison between Fort Worth and Palmdale-based teams

- Driving continuous improvement in development methodologies and practices

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree or above from an accredited college in a relevant field of study (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering)

- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor teams of software developers

- Extensive experience working with and leading Agile software development process in a team environment  

- Extensive experience developing C/C++ software systems

- Demonstrated versioning control and documentation skills

- Experience with Linux or RTOS (real-time operating systems) and associated development toolchains

- Experience developing software for avionics systems

- Background in Software profiling (metrics, performance, etc.)

- Travel up to 10% may be required 

- Must be a US Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain Secret clearance updated within the last 5 years

Desired Skills

- 9+ years of professional software development experience

- Background in software development estimation and scheduling

- Experience managing Agile development tools and methodologies (Git, JIRA, Confluence, etc.)

- Product Owner experience in software development context

- Lab experience with simulation integration and testing

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $120600.00 - $224000.00

PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
