Standard Job Description

You will be the Component Engineer for the Hardware Engineering team at Lockheed Martin  Missiles and Fire Control (MFC). Our team delivers precision engagement aerospace and defense systems, designing, building and fielding the electrical hardware that powers missiles, sensors and other mission critical subsystems for the United States and allied militaries.

 

What You Will Be Doing

As the Component Engineer, you will serve as a recognized subject matter expert and technical leader, providing direction and oversight for EEE component lifecycle management across the MFC portfolio. Your responsibilities may include:

• Leading physical properties analysis processes and lifecycle monitoring of EEE components from fabrication through customer delivery

• Interfacing directly with Government Customers (in meetings and presentations), manufacturers, and test houses

• Producing documents and drawings, processing engineering requirements, and handling issues relating to new component releases and qualification

• Managing component-related failure analysis, non-compliances, and prohibited items (such as pure tin), and mitigating risks of counterfeit parts procurement

• Performing or contributing to trade studies and testing for new designs or obsolescence replacement

• Coordinating with suppliers and manufacturers on new releases, roadmaps, and end-of-life for their components

• Providing technical guidance to programs and managers regarding component qualification, performance, risks, and specifications

• Analyzing physical properties of electronic components and managing the full component lifecycle including procurement, testing, and qualification

• Ensuring compliance with customer requirements and specifications across multiple programs

• Working closely with Design Engineers on selecting approved and reliable components

• Supporting Manufacturing and Quality engineers with technical issues and verification of component handling

MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN - This position is located at a facility that requires special access. The selected candidate must be able to obtain a secret clearance. 

 

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related STEM field from an accredited university; Master’s degree or PhD preferred

• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in Component Engineering or component-related experience such as circuit card manufacturing, SMT process, thermal profiling of critical components, troubleshooting, cable assembly, and understanding of component commodity and package types including moisture-sensitive parts

• Proficient with component engineering obsolescence tools (Silicon Expert, IHS BOM Intelligence)

• Proficient with product lifecycle tools such as Windchill PLM

• Proficient with MS Office applications, especially Excel

• Ability to work with minimal supervision

• Strong communication skills; able to effectively work with customers, manufacturers, and other external part suppliers

• Ability to travel to customer and supplier locations

• Must be a US Citizen; must possess or be able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance

 

Desired Skills

• Experience in electrical component manufacturing process and physical property analysis

• Experience in Component Engineering with knowledge of electronic components and devices

• Electrical or Electronic Engineering experience (such as components or digital/analog design)

• Experience with missile platforms

• Knowledge of Parts Management Plan

• Ability to work with minimal supervision and lead junior engineers

• Experience interfacing with Government Customers in formal presentations and meetings

• Experience with trade studies for obsolescence replacement and new designs

• Experience managing counterfeit parts risk mitigation programs

• Active DoD Secret or Top Secret Clearance

 

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $104900.00 - $194700.00

  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
