This role blends material science, mechanical design, sustainability, and regulatory knowledge to develop containers, cartons, pallets, and secondary packaging that meet performance, aesthetic, and manufacturing requirements
Core Responsibilities
Concept & Design
- Generate packaging concepts using CAD tools (SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD) based on product dimensions, weight, fragility, and customer requirements
- Specification Development
- Define packaging specifications: material thickness, cushioning performance, barrier properties, sealing methods, labeling guidelines, and tolerances
- Align specifications with cost targets, supply‑chain constraints, and sustainability goals (e.g., recycled content, reduction of material waste)
Testing & Validation
- Plan and execute physical tests: compression, drop, vibration, climate chamber (temperature/humidity), shock, moisture ingress, and tamper‑evidence testing
- Use simulation tools (finite‑element analysis, Drop‑Test software) to predict performance and reduce prototype cycles
- Analyze test data, create failure reports, and iterate designs accordingly
Regulatory & Legal Compliance
- Apply knowledge of relevant regulations: hazardous‑materials (DOT/IATA) and industry‑specific standards
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Partner with product development, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and regulatory affairs to embed packaging requirements early in the product development cycle
Basic Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging Science, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field or equivalent professional experience

- Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel for cost modeling
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP (SAP, Oracle) for BOM and specification control
- Prior experience with Hazardous Material Training 49CFR, IATA, IMDG
- Experience with MIL-STD-129 and MIL-STD-130 IUID/UID labeling
