Standard Job Description
Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that employs approximately 114,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration, and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products, and services. Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control (MFC) is one of four Lockheed Martin business areas. We are seeking to hire a Flying Test Bed Engineer for our Grand Prairie, TX site.
The Flying Test Bed Engineer will plan, coordinate, and execute RF sensor flight-test activities and supporting lead-up tests, including tower testing and airworthiness ground testing. Working under general direction, the engineer will independently develop assigned test plans and flight cards, coordinate test readiness with multidisciplinary teams and government ranges, and evaluate test results. The role resolves complex integration and test issues within approved flight-test, airworthiness, and range safety processes; it does not carry independent flight-release or regulatory approval authority.
Core Responsibilities
• Translate assigned RF sensor verification objectives into flight-test plans, flight cards, test conditions, and data collection requirements.
• Plan and execute supporting tower tests, ground integration tests, and airworthiness ground tests using approved procedures.
• Coordinate assigned test activities, schedules, facility needs, and documentation with government test ranges and internal flight-test personnel.
• Support test readiness reviews by tracking prerequisites, configuration status, instrumentation readiness, and open technical issues.
• Coordinate with platform, RF, software, systems, telemetry, and ground-support teams to prepare integrated test configurations.
• Support execution of approved flight-test activities, monitor assigned test parameters, and document deviations and anomalies.
• Analyze flight and ground test data, assess achievement of test objectives, and prepare technical reports and recommendations for follow-on testing.
• Investigate complex sensor, instrumentation, and interface discrepancies with the responsible engineering teams.
• Maintain traceable test records and brief test status, results, risks, and proposed corrective actions to engineering and program stakeholders.
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Systems Engineering, or a related STEM field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
• 3+ years of related experience in aircraft or missile flight testing, flight-test integration, or closely related test engineering.
• Experience supporting RF sensor flight testing and interpreting associated test data.
• Experience writing flight-test plans, procedures, and flight cards.
• Experience coordinating test activities with government test ranges.
• Knowledge of flight-test readiness, ground testing, configuration control, and applicable safety processes.
• Ability to independently execute complex assignments under general direction and communicate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
• Interim security clearance is needed to start, therefore you must be a US Citizen.
Desired Skills
• Experience with tower testing and airworthiness ground testing for airborne sensor installations.
• Experience supporting airworthiness documentation or experimental flight-test approval processes under designated authorities.
• Familiarity with airborne instrumentation, telemetry, time-correlated data collection, and ground-support equipment.
• Experience using MATLAB, Python, or similar tools for flight-test data analysis and visualization.
• Experience participating in test readiness reviews, risk assessments, and anomaly resolution for flight-test campaigns.
