What does this role look like?
This position will lead a talented media relations, brand/marketing, executive communications, tradeshow and events team. The director will oversee all elements of PR and marketing and events, collaborate with and advise senior business leaders to shape strategy, handle crisis communications, manage budgets and resources, and lead employee development. This role is expected to foster storytelling around innovation with disruptive new approaches, while also up-leveling how we build narratives around customer success, missions and milestones across a variety of communications disciplines.
Responsibilities:
- Conceptualize and lead high-impact communications campaigns that differentiate capabilities in space and advanced strategic business goals.
- Create and deliver compelling messages for media, marketing and thought leadership channels that advance thought leadership on key issues in space.
- Advise senior leaders and executive leadership across the business on communications strategy and messaging.
- Lead the implementation of innovations to embrace new technologies, new channels, and new media to tell our story in inspiring and meaningful ways.
- Build and manage relationships with tier one reporters covering the industry, pitch and oversee executive-level media interviews.
- Oversee marketing communications strategy for paid, shared and owned media including social media, web, trade shows, special events, sponsorships and advertising. Lead and develop a high-performing team of communications professionals.
- Lead the protocol team in creating meaningful senior leader visitor experiences and events, oversee related budget and development of team.
- Direct the management of budgets and resources for marketing, staffing and PR.
- Work closely with Corporate Communications to contribute to enterprise-wide efforts and advance space-related campaigns and programs.
- Partner with Government Affairs and Business Development to define an annual communications plan that advances business goals and reaches strategic audience segments.
- Lead a cross-business area communications campaign around defense related theme and topic.
- Define and implement a cohesive metrics strategy to track, measure and improve performance of marketing initiatives.

This position does not support teleworking; the preferred candidate will be located near our Lockheed Martin Space facility one of the Coolest places to work: Denver, Colorado , and be expected to work in the office.
Basic Qualifications
To be effective, you will need to possess these basic qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college, or equivalent experience/combined education.
- 10+ years of communications experience.
- 8+ years of leadership experience, with leading and developing other leaders a must.
- Experience successfully managing extensive budgets.
- Experience in aerospace and defense and/or high-tech industries.
- Proven exceptional and high quality strategic communication skills, including written, verbal, and presentation, to effectively communicate business cases to all levels including executive leadership.
- Ability to travel within the United States up to 25 percent of the time.

- Comfortable interfacing with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Strong sense of urgency and attention to detail.
- Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at the same time, effectively managing a heavy workload independently and without close supervision.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $180000.00 - $325000.00

- Annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs may be offered depending on the position. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics.
- For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
