For over 60 years, the Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) team has supported the Navy’s mission to provide affordable and credible strategic defense. We help keep this nation and our allies secure. The FBM program is experiencing significant growth, and we need your expertise to deliver amazing new technologies to our customers while maintaining the technical requirements of the strategic deterrence.

As a Materials Engineer in the Electrical Materials and Processes (EM&P) group on the Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) program, you’ll identify requirements for the selection, approval, and overall management of materials and processes used in design, development, fabrication, procurement, and service life consideration for all prototype, qualification, and flight printed wiring boards and circuit card assemblies. You will Take system or material-level requirements and implement testing and controls such that materials and processes meet end-item requirements.  Working side-by-side with designers, component engineers, manufacturing engineers, and both internal and external customers, you’ll use your education, experience, and growing expertise to drive commonality across the missile.

In this role you will:
• Select materials and processes on new designs that will help defend out country, get hands-on manufacturing experience of the next missile, or provide oversite to an extensive supply chain providing product critical to Mission Success

• Perform materials and processes technical engineering assignments

• Troubleshoot problems and find innovative solutions

• Participate in the selection, qualification, testing, and failure analysis of materials and processes

• Prepare technical and progress reports on assigned tasks, prepare specifications, evaluate suppliers, and analyze test reports

• Coordinate with other disciplines such as design engineering, manufacturing, quality engineering, and procurement

Identifies requirements for the selection, approval, and overall management of materials and processes used in design, development, fabrication, procurement, and service life consideration for all prototype, qualification, and flight printed wiring boards and circuit card assemblies. Takes system or material-level requirements and implements testing and controls such that materials and processes meet end-item requirements.  Coordinates cross dicsiplinary internally and externally to drive commonality.

Basic Qualifications

• Familiar with electronic materials and processes used in printed wiring boards and/or circuit card assemblies
• Knowledge of industry standards, including IPC standards
• Experience writing material specifications and test plans
• Familiar with reading, writing, and reviewing engineering drawings
• Willingness/ability to obtain/maintain a Top Secret clearance; US Citizenship required

Desired Skills

• Bachelors degree in materials engineering or related field
• Design and material selection experience for printed wiring boards and circuit card assemblies
• Manufacturing experience of printed wiring boards and circuit card assemblies
• Experience with programmatic milestones, i.e. PDR, CDR, SRR, MRR, etc
• Customer interfacing experience working with DoD
• Communicate effectively with transdisciplinary teams, senior leadership, and customer audiences
• Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice
• Active or Current Top Secret security clearance
