Standard Job Description
WHAT WE’RE DOING
Lockheed Martin’s Rotary & Mission Systems division is building the next‑generation, AI‑ready, cloud‑native, mission platform. This is a software‑first product line that operates like a high‑growth commercial tech platform — delivering new capabilities, licensing, and ongoing support at commercial‑grade velocity — while meeting the security and reliability standards required for mission‑critical Defense workloads.
This is a hybrid‑telework opportunity. This role supports a predefined telework schedule combined with on-site collaboration, based from one of these locations:
- Huntsville, AL
- Colorado Springs, CO
- Littleton, CO
- Moorestown, NJ
- Owego, NY
- Syracuse, NY
- King of Prussia, PA
- Manassas, VA
THE ROLE
As Software Product Line Lead, you own the software baseline for a product line that rivals today’s leading SaaS platforms. Responsibilities include:
- Lead the end‑to‑end creation of a software product that is sold, deployed, and continuously maintained in a commercial environment. Drive practices that enable rapid onboarding of new customers, predictable upgrade paths, and long‑term sustainment.
- Design and implement a secure licensing framework that supports multiple entitlement models. Build the tooling for key generation, activation, renewal, and revocation, and embed it directly into the deployment pipeline.
- Embed a modern ticketing and enhancement system into the product. Define APIs and UI flows that let customers submit help‑desk tickets, request feature enhancements, and track resolution status, turning support data into a continuous improvement engine.
- Institutionalize short, frequent release cycles (CI/CD) that mirror commercial SaaS roll‑outs. Establish automated deployment, configuration‑as‑code, and rollback capabilities that give customers confidence in rapid, low‑risk upgrades.
- Define and evolve a scalable software framework that supports the above commercial capabilities.
- Balance near-term customer needs with investments required to maintain a scalable, extensible, and sustainable product.
- Translate customer and mission requirements into concrete technical roadmaps; serve as the primary liaison for internal teams, external partners, and Customers.
- Accelerate delivery by applying best of breed development practices while meeting Lockheed Martin’s security and compliance mandates.
- Integrate AI agents and advanced analytics into the platform, enabling autonomous decision‑making across diverse environments.
WHO YOU ARE
A technical leader who has delivered large‑scale, high‑availability software in commercial settings (e.g., streaming services, data‑intensive cloud platforms). You balance architecture, engineering, product management, and operations, keeping the commercial lifecycle front‑and‑center.
- Proven track record designing, licensing, and supporting commercial software that is sold, deployed, and maintained at scale.
- Expertise in modern cloud‑native architectures, micro‑services, APIs, and CI/CD/DevSecOps.
- Experience building or integrating ticketing/enhancement workflows that turn support data into product evolution.
- Comfortable navigating the tension between rapid commercial deployment cycles and the stringent security/compliance requirements of defense programs.
You won’t just ship software—you’ll own a commercial product lifecycle that includes licensing, customer support, continuous enhancements, and rapid, reliable deployment.
Basic Qualifications
- Experience in software architecture and commercial‑grade development practices; able to educate all levels of an organization on modern CI/CD workflows.
- 10+ years of experience delivering high‑availability, network‑centric applications (e.g., streaming, data‑intensive services, cloud‑native platforms) and integrating AI into existing products.
- Demonstrated ability to define and manage licensing models, usage‑key generation, and entitlement mechanisms for commercial software.
- Experience establishing support and enhancement processes that capture help‑desk tickets and feed them back into the product roadmap.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for articulating technical strategy to diverse audiences.
- This position will require a Secret Security Clearance. Must be a US Citizen for consideration.
Desired Skills
- Passion for building next‑generation software capabilities that directly support national security while operating like a commercial SaaS platform.
- Familiarity with Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and defense acquisition lifecycle.
- Prior exposure to mission‑critical systems.
- Demonstrated leadership of cross‑functional teams and management of complex, competing priorities.
