Job Title:  Software Engineer - E2

Standard Job Description

The Lockheed Martin Next Generation Geospatial (NGG) team is seeking full-time experienced Software Engineers to be part of a team building and supporting the ground software for the NGG OPIR mission. The Relay Software (ReSW) team is building the ground-segment software that will replace the legacy Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS) with the Next-Generation OPIR mission – capable of detecting fast, dim and highly advanced threats.

In this role, you will collaborate across several teams to support and enhance the world class ground software supporting soon-to-launch space vehicles. You will be actively working with operational personal and products that communicate with missile seeking satellites. This is a Tier 2 support role where triaging and troubleshooting skills are important. When not ensuring the health and function of our software in Operations, you will work with a great team of Software Engineers to continue executing our technical roadmap.

The successful candidate will have a passion for learning.  You will have experience and/or knowledge of SQL, Angular, Java, Python, and C++. You don’t mind the occasional requirement to support during non-standard business hours and working on high-priority system fixes.  You are a US Citizen; this position will require government security clearance prior to starting.

This role will have responsibilities that include:

  • Troubleshooting issues reported within our Operations domain.
  • Fixing high-priority, high-visibility issues in real time.
  • An on-call component – occasionally needing to support 24x7 as issues arise within an expected 40-hour work week.
  • Working within a team to design, implement, and test new software capabilities.
  • Proficiency in leveraging AI in emerging new ways as it applies to this position and practice.
  • Appling the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the development life cycle.

Basic Qualifications

  • 1+ years experience with one or more of Java, Python, and C++ programming languages.
  • Proficiency in SQL.
  • Familiarity with Angular framework.
  • Proven experience troubleshooting issues in Software and infrastructure.
  • Ability to work seamlessly in a collaborative multi-team environment.
  • Proven ability to convey technical details to non-technical audiences.
  • Active Secret government clearance with ability to gain TS/SCI non-polygraph.

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of Agile Software Development.
  • Experience using observability tools (i.e. Splunk) to trace transactions across microservice architecture.
  • Experience with Message Broker and cross domain REST communication emphasizing Cyber Security and Reliability.
  • Experience working within a modern micro-service architecture.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering or other related degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Familiarity with OpenShift
  • Proven ability to triage, investigate, and resolve defects
