The Opportunity

AIR6500 is a focussed LMA activity that includes exploring advanced web-based technologies for a Joint Air Battle Management System (JABMS) – A system that will interconnect the defence platforms, systems sensors and effectors across the war fighting domains, land, air, sea, space and cyber.

Working as a Senior Software Engineer as part of an Agile Scrum team, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of features focusing on front-end and back-end elements, including technical ownership of designated software features. You will drive an industry best practice approach in a microservices based architecture. You will be responsible for the integration of technical deliverables.

Join a highly skilled engineering team delivering the common processing environment, data interfaces and services infrastructure that enable a consistent systems deployment and interface approach for AIR6500-1 JABMS. You will contribute to complex software and platform solutions while helping drive quality, integration and technical outcomes in an agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and support Platform as a Service (PaaS) capabilities, including container orchestration, infrastructure provisioning, application deployment and common libraries/APIs.
  • Deliver and maintain data services, including common data models, persistent storage and inter-node data distribution.
  • Support security services that protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of authorised users and applications.
  • Implement and maintain system resource monitoring across equipment and applications.
  • Manage system configuration and versioning to support reliable and controlled software delivery.
  • Lead and contribute to the agile development of complex technical solutions, from software requirements and design through to implementation, code and unit testing.
  • Resolve technical challenges identified throughout software development, integration and test activities.

Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineering team members.

What you'll bring

  • Significant knowledge of software engineering processes, procedures and the broader engineering product lifecycle.
  • Strong experience with software engineering methodologies and techniques, ideally within a web-based development environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply sound technical judgement, lateral thinking and practical problem-solving to complex engineering challenges.
  • Experience working collaboratively within agile software development teams.
  • The ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and contribute to the development of less experienced engineers.
  • Experience designing, developing and testing Infrastructure as Code would be highly regarded.
