The Opportunity:

Eligibility: Applicants must be Australian citizens and be eligible to obtain and maintain an active Australian Government Defence security clearance at the level required for the position.

 

The System Administrator is responsible for maintaining the reliable operation, performance, and security of multi user computer systems, platforms, and associated technologies. Working closely with network administrators and other technical teams, the role manages user and service accounts, system documentation, software deployments, storage allocation, system optimisation, and backup and recovery processes. The position also provides technical support to users, evaluates technology solutions, and contributes recommendations regarding hardware, software, and infrastructure improvements.

 

Operating with a high degree of technical autonomy, the System Administrator applies sound judgement to resolve issues, implement solutions, and support technology projects and operational objectives. The role contributes to the development and monitoring of policies, procedures, and standards for the effective use of computing resources, while ensuring systems remain aligned with organisational requirements and service expectations.

About you:

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience providing systems administration support within a professional ICT environment, with experience supporting enterprise systems and infrastructure. The role requires a solid understanding of Windows and Linux operating systems, virtualisation technologies, networking concepts, security practices, and general infrastructure support.

 

Experience across the following areas is highly desirable:

  • Administration, configuration, and support of virtualised environments, including virtual machines, virtualisation management platforms, and associated infrastructure.
  • Supporting server infrastructure, enterprise storage solutions, and backup environments.
  • Performing system maintenance, software deployments, configuration changes, and troubleshooting of physical and virtual server environments.
  • Administration of enterprise services including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and related domain services.
  • Applying security controls and system hardening practices across server and virtualised environments.
  • Supporting networking technologies, including virtual networking, switches, firewall solutions, and connectivity troubleshooting.
  • Assisting with data centre activities such as equipment installation, rack management, cabling, and hardware lifecycle activities.
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation, procedures, and support guides.
  • Using scripting or automation tools to improve administration tasks and operational efficiency.

 

The role requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, customers, and vendors. The successful candidate will demonstrate a customer-focused approach, effective communication skills, and an understanding of cybersecurity responsibilities within an ICT environment.

Qualifications:

Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline, and/or equivalent practical experience in systems administration.

 

Desirable

  • Relevant industry certifications or vendor training in areas such as Windows Server, virtualisation technologies (e.g. VMware VCP, Nutanix NCP), Linux administration (e.g. RHCSA), networking, or related technologies.
