The defense industrial base must transform itself to rapidly respond to the current threat environment and the urgent needs of its customers. The Cost Competitiveness team drives enterprise-wide strategic initiatives to transform the business. We work across all levels of the organization, influencing executive and senior leadership and championing culture change, process improvement, and cost and lead time reduction efforts.
Ideal candidate is:
- Highly motivated, able to work autonomous and independently under limited supervision with no set defined process.
- Able to conceptualize a project from start to finish and intuitively know what step needs to happen next.
- A self-starter who demonstrates a high-sense of urgency, keeps commitments, and is able to self-manage and prioritize projects and own outcomes.
- Comfortable developing materials and presenting to senior leadership.
- Able to influence senior leadership to obtain buy-in and project championship.
- Able to drive project implementation timelines in partnership with executive champions to ensure successful implementation outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Idea Generation – Build strategic and financial analysis to identify opportunities.
- Business Case Development & Advanced Financial Modeling – Combine financial expertise and operational insight to create data‑driven, end‑to‑end cases that support strategic decisions.
- Executive Communication – Produce concise, compelling presentations and briefing materials for executive and senior leadership buy-in.
- Stakeholder Management – Secure executive champions for initiatives and requisite cross-functional stakeholder support.
- Project Management – Lead implementation of initiatives in partnership with cross-functional stakeholders and executive champions.
Other responsibilities may include:
- Process & Workflow Optimization – Streamline recurring business processes, integrate workflows and lead Lean Six Sigma (LSS) activities.
- Supply‑Chain Collaboration – Identify strategies to generate savings with global supply chain partners (e.g. bulk‑buy, Strategic Relationship Management, etc.)
- Culture & Process Change – Partner with stakeholders to embed an affordability mindset and continuous improvement culture.
Leadership & Collaboration:
Reports to the Senior Manager, Cost Competitiveness; interfaces heavily with executive leadership. Coordinates across Finance, Engineering, Production Operations, Global Supply Chain, Program Management, Business Development, and other key groups to diagnose strategic/financial risks/opportunities, set goals, and drive outcomes.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical, business or related field
- Demonstrated experience in strategic and financial analysis; including cost and lead time reduction or value-engineering projects
- Business acumen and advanced financial modeling skills (DCF, IRR/NPV, scenario/decision matrix, sensitivity analysis)
- Experience leading cross-functional teams through the development of long-term business cases or other strategic projects
- Highly organized, proactive, strategic project management skills to ensure timely completion of projects, follow through and adherence to deadlines, detail oriented
- Executive presence, able to influence peers and senior leaders
- Self-starter who is highly motivated, team player with strong communication skills
Desired Skills
- A Masters’ degree in a related discipline
- Professional designation (e.g. CFA/CPA, etc.)
- Prior experience with zero‑baseline reviews and implementation
- Defense industry experience identifying, qualifying, and executing cost and lead time reduction or other strategic initiatives
- Expertise in Position-to-Win and Design-to-Cost methodologies
- Prior Tier 1 consulting (McKinsey, Bain, BCG, etc.) experience
- Proven ability to create and deliver compelling executive-level presentations that influence decision making
- Demonstrated experience and comfort in presenting to executive management
- Experience leading enterprise-wide culture change and process improvement initiatives impacting multiple functional stakeholders
- Entrepreneurial drive and a desire to transform the defense industry
Pay Information
GeoZone Definition: GeoZones are geographic groupings created by Lockheed Martin to align compensation ranges with regional labor markets and cost-of-labor differences across the United States. Locations are assigned a Geo Zone based on the primary work location of the role.
- Full-time salary range (GEOZONE 1): $137100.00 - $254700.00
- Includes metropolitan areas such as Sunnyvale CA; Pal Alto, CA; New York City metropolitan area; Newark, New Jersey; etc.
- Full-time salary range (GEOZONE 2): $123400.00 - $229200.00
- Includes metropolitan areas such as Denver, CO; King of Prussia, PA; Stratford, CT; Moorestown, NJ; etc.
- Full-time salary range (GEOZONE 3): $109700.00 - $203700.00
- Includes metropolitan areas such as Dallas–Fort Worth, TX; Orlando, FL; Grand Prairie, TX; Marietta, GA; etc.

- For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
