What We’re Doing
At Lockheed Martin Rotary & Mission Systems (RMS) in Owego, NY we design and develop mission‑critical embedded software and advanced computing solutions for defense and aerospace platforms. Our work secures avionics, mission computers, and embedded processing systems where reliability, performance, and security are essential.

The Work – System Engineer
Support the development, analysis, and documentation of security‑focused system architectures. Perform security engineering tasks throughout the sytem lifecycle and ensure that security requirements are integrated into system designs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research system architecture, interview subject‑matter experts, and author policy documentation.
  • Conduct threat modeling, create and maintain attack trees, and communicate findings to engineering and program leadership.
  • Apply Security Systems Engineering (SSE) methodologies; review circuit‑card assemblies, ICs, cryptographic modules, and security‑related software for risk assessment.
  • Produce, edit, and maintain security‑focused manuals, user guides, and engineering reports in accordance with Lockheed Martin standards.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, system engineers, firmware teams, and configuration‑management to capture and trace security requirements.
  • Stay current with emerging security standards (e.g., NIST 800‑53, DO‑326A, ISO 27001) and incorporate best practices into engineering processes.
  • Contribute to estimates, schedules, milestones, and work products.

  • U.S. citizenship required; active Full Secret clearance (must be maintainable).

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • Active Full Secret clearance (must be maintainable).
  • 1–2 years of relevant experience in systems engineering, security engineering, or technical writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear, concise technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; ability to research complex systems and translate findings into actionable policies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to interact with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance with the ability to maintain the clearance.
  • Willingness to work in a classified environment.

Desired Skills

  • Working knowledge of systems‑engineering tools (e.g., IBM DOORS, Modeling Tools (ie. Cameo)).
  • Exposure to security‑systems engineering tasks such as detection‑policy creation, attack‑tree analysis, and threat modeling.
  • Familiarity with cryptographic methods, secure firmware, or security‑related software.
  • Knowledge of safety‑critical development standards (e.g., DO‑178C, DO‑254).
  • Prior experience in a defense‑industry environment.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $70500.00 - $130900.00

  • Annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs may be offered depending on the position. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics.
  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
