Standard Job Description

Who We Are

At Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems (RMS), we turn bold ideas into mission-critical capabilities for those who protect our nation. Our Owego team is pioneering a new era of collaborative autonomy by developing Group 1 &2 uncrewed aircraft that launch from, operate alongside, and team with crewed platforms.

This is an opportunity to help define a capability from the ground up, take it from the lab to the flight line, and see your work perform in the real world. We are looking for hungry, smart, and enthusiastic engineers who are excited to work on cutting-edge, tangible products in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. If you are ready to shape the future of autonomous teaming and deliver technology that truly takes flight, join us.

What We’re Doing

This role ensures the technical integrity, quality, and completeness of work performed and deliverables associated with Launched Effects, UAS development, and collaborative autonomy subsystem capabilities. You will be responsible for meeting technical, cost, and schedule commitments while leading Integration and Test engineering efforts.

Your work will include developing and executing System Integration Test (SIT) procedures, supporting Functional Integration Plans (FIPs), and supporting customer demonstrations. You will focus on enabling autonomous teaming between Group 1 & 2 UAVs and crewed platforms during airborne launch and recovery operations.

The Work

We are seeking a Senior Integration and Test Engineer to join our team in Owego, NY, supporting the Launched Effects Family of Systems (LE FoS). You will take hardware and software from the laboratory bench through integrated system testing and customer demonstrations. You will write and execute SIT procedures, investigate issues, and drive defects to closure before they reach the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Integration and Test engineering for LE FoS capabilities across the Concept, Development, Production, Utilization, Support, and Test phases, ensuring technical integrity and completeness while supporting collaborative autonomy objectives.
  • Ensure technical, cost, and schedule commitments are maintained while advancing autonomous teaming for UAV development and airborne launch missions.
  • Develop and execute SIT procedures and support FIPs tailored to collaborative autonomy scenarios between uncrewed and crewed systems.
  • Operate effectively in a team environment, optimizing communication and collaboration with Software, Systems, Hardware Engineering, Manufacturing, Program Management, and suppliers.
  • Improve Integration and Test efficiency through test automation, improved tools, and improved processes.
  • Support customer demonstrations and operational utilization, ensuring seamless integration of collaborative autonomy capabilities into vertical-lift and expeditionary frameworks.

Please Note

  • Role is based in Owego, NY.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD government security clearance at the Secret level.

Who You Are

You would rather be in the laboratory or on the range than in a slide deck. You enjoy bringing hardware and software together, writing procedures that uncover real problems, and pursuing a defect until it is closed. You are curious about why a system operates the way it does and can independently investigate unique use cases.

You communicate findings clearly with Systems and Software teams and use those findings to improve operational effectiveness. You are comfortable working across disciplines, managing competing priorities, and contributing to a fast-paced program where successful integration leads directly to flight and customer demonstration.

Basic Qualifications

  • The qualified candidate will review, evaluate, and derive requirements for testability and develop and direct the preparation and execution of comprehensive test plans, procedures, and schedules for complete systems and/or subsystems in support of LM Owego-led testing.
  • Excellent communication skills are required for customer presentations and briefings, as well as the ability to work in a team environment as part of a multidisciplinary effort involving multiple customers and companies.
  • Must be self-motivated, able to work under general supervision, capable of multitasking, and equipped with strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Must be able to work with a diverse team of highly skilled engineers, including junior and senior engineers, as well as customers and representatives from other agencies.
  • Applicants should expect to be assigned technical topics of interest to the customer and the program, investigate those topics, propose solutions, and drive them to closure.
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or computer engineering, or computer science, with five years of related professional experience, or three or more years of related experience with a related master’s degree.
  • Experience with requirements development, system design, problem analysis and resolution, and integration and test.
  • Strong teamwork and problem-solving skills, with experience in requirements traceability, Integration and Test, software verification, procedure development, and test-development metrics.

Desired Skills

  • Proven systems engineering and Integration and Test experience with UAS, Launched Effects, or related mission systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with Group 1 and 2 UAV development and airborne launch operations.
  • Strong background in fostering autonomous teaming and collaborative autonomy across multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Innovative thinking for reengineering Integration and Test processes through collaborative autonomy.
  • Experience with test automation development in an Agile program environment.
  • Software development experience.
  • Experience with data bus and Ethernet standards, such as MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, and IEEE 802.3.
  • Experience with instrumentation and data capture, including IRIG Chapter 10 data recorders and Wireshark.
  • Experience with data analysis using tools such as MATLAB or Python.
  • Experience interfacing with customers.
  • Experience working with a diverse range of complex electrical hardware and software systems.
  • Ability to read and use technical schematics, drawings, software specifications, manuals, and other technical materials to resolve complex problems.
  • Experience with requirements-tracking and defect-tracking tools, such as Cameo, DOORS, and JIRA.
  • Ability to brief and teach technical information to internal and external audiences.
