This position supports Lockheed Martin’s Unmanned Maritime Solutions (UMS) portfolio in Palm Beach, FL, as part of the Technical Documentation Center of Excellence (COE). The technical writer will develop and maintain high‑quality manuals—procedure, user, programming, service, operational specifications, and related publications—to clearly convey technical specifications and instructions.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Partnering with Global Sustainment leadership to define documentation requirements, schedules, and risk‑management guidelines.
  • Creating, rewriting, and editing technical documents.
  • Gathering engineering data from Jira tickets, product developers, blueprints, specifications, and illustrations.
  • Validating system capabilities in the lab and ensuring documentation reflects actual performance.
  • Supporting Agile development: attending Scrum events, representing documentation tasks in sprint backlogs, and performing quality‑assurance reviews of products.
  • Coordinating with sustainment leaders to align training content with technical manual revisions and program timelines.

The role requires hands‑on system familiarization, subject‑matter acquisition through interviews and technical reviews, and close collaboration with engineering, sustainment, and operational stakeholders.

 

Writes, in clear and concise language, such technical documents as procedure manuals, service manuals, and related technical publications concerned with installation, operation, and maintenance of electronic, electrical, mechanical, and other equipment. Includes writing such technical documentation as operational specifications, bulletins, articles, and marketing publications. Acquires or verifies knowledge of subject by interviewing workers engaged in developing new products and services or in making improvements, observing performance of experiments and methods of production, referring to blueprints, sketches, engineering drawings and notes, trade and engineering journals, rewrites of articles, bulletins, manuals, or similar publications.

Basic Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret clearance with ability to gain and maintain SCI access and a Counter-Intelligence Polygraph.
  • A strong work ethic and ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment, with excellent multitasking and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Agile Methodology and Scrum framework, with a solid understanding of Scrum principles and practices.
  • Working knowledge of military documentation standards and specifications.
  • Excellent written and communication skills, with the ability to develop clear and concise reports, plans, and presentations to effectively communicate program status to stakeholders.
  • Proficient in the MS Office suite of products, including Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Excellent people skills and ability to communicate with people at varying professional levels.

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of S1000D compliant Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) development processes and sustainment element planning strategies, with experience working in an Agile development environment.
  • Proficiency in Agile Methodology and Scrum framework, with a solid understanding of Scrum principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with authoring tools, Notepad ++, Arbortext, and XML editing.
  • Experience collaborating with US Navy submarine stakeholders, including maintainers, operators, and support personnel from installation, engineering, and other disciplines, with a strong understanding of their needs, challenges, and workflows.
  • Experience working with US Navy submarine systems, including operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electronics/electrical/mechanical equipment, with knowledge of principles, systems, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with Undersea Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) and/or Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) systems.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $72500.00 - $134600.00
