This position is for a Senior Software Engineer on the simulation software team for the NASA Orion program. A Simulation Software Engineer plans, coordinates, and executes development of simulation tools. Designing, coding, testing, and debugging logical and mathematical models (using C++, Python, MATLAB/Simulink) to replicate hardware functionality, system dynamics, and mission scenarios. They are responsible for the full software development lifecycle, ensuring code quality, producing user documentation, and supporting users in both software-only and hardware-in-the-loop environments.

Plans, conducts, and coordinates software development activities. Designs, develops, documents, tests, and debugs software that contains logical and mathematical solutions to business/mission problems or questions in computer language for solutions by means of data processing equipment. Applies the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the development life cycle. Applies knowledge of computer hardware and software, subject matter to be programmed in business/mission applications, information processing techniques used, and information gathered from system users to develop software. Corrects program errors, prepares operating instructions, compiles documentation of program development, and analyzes system capabilities to resolve questions of program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls. Ensures software standards are met.

Basic Qualifications

• B.S in Engineering or related degree from an accredited college/university or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3+ years of software engineering experience
• Experience with full software development lifecycle
• Experience debugging and implementing best software engineering practices in large-scale systems
• Proficiency in C++, Python
• Linux Experience

Desired Skills

• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
• Experience with real-time 6 DoF simulation
• Experience with aerospace engineering concepts - fluid mechanics, orbital dynamics, etc.
• Experience with Software Configuration Management tools such as Perforce
• Desired experience with MATLAB/Simulink
• Desired previous experience with Orion
• Works effectively independently and as part of a team

Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $110300.00 - $204900.00
