The Work
Lockheed Martin Rotary & Mission Systems is seeking a Software Developer. In this role, you will perform tasks supporting Navy programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, writing, testing, and integrating defensive security applications and custom configurations into a Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) platform environment. The engineer will divide their time between creating new security-focused applications, modifying existing platform architectures, and integrating robust software defenses directly into RHEL systems and custom runtime environments. This is an active engineering and development role focused on architectural design and system-level mitigation. While the primary focus is on engineering and development, the role involves evaluating third-party software for platform integration compatibility when required.
This position is located at a facility that requires special access. The selected candidate will be required to hold an active government Secret security clearance.

Basic Qualifications
-
Required Technical Experience
- RHEL Platforms: Advanced engineering experience working natively inside Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments to modify, configure, and build platform components.
- Systems Integration & Testing: Proven experience designing integration pathways for software and validating platform changes using structured testing methodologies.
- Application Development: Demonstrated experience writing new applications, scripts, or utilities to augment a platform environment.
- Native OS Defense: Strong proficiency with native RHEL defense components, network layers (e.g., firewalld, nftables), and application sandboxing.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Years of Experience: Minimum of 4+ years of professional experience as a Systems Engineer, Application Engineer, or Platform Developer working directly on Linux security solutions.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical product-engineering experience.
Desired Skills
• Strong background in networking, switches, and routers
• Strong written and verbal communication for cross‑functional team
• Desire to lead and a track record of mentoring junior engineers or leading security‑focused design reviews

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $110300.00 - $204900.00

Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market(work location) and business considerations when extending an offer.

- Annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs may be offered depending on the position. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics.
- For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
