The Lockheed Martin Whiskey Shot (WS) team is seeking an experienced Software Architect to be part of a team developing defense technology that could forever change our ability to deter and respond to adversity.
The Software Architect is responsible for developing a common vision across the WS Agile teams, focused on delivery of an integrated set of products, tools, and software components supporting the SDS organizational goals. The Software Architect will work with the other WS leads, such as the Software Integration Lead, Software Engineering Lead, Systems Engineering Lead, and WS product teams implement the common vision across the full organization. The Software Architect will be responsible for ensuring that the WS products follow appropriate processes and software development best practices, with emphasis on software reuse, DevSecOps processes, and automation throughout the engineering lifecycle. The individual will define, document, and communicate software architecture and designs to engineering teams, and be able to verify and support their successful implementation.
The Software Architect will need to have excellent communication skills, be able to resolve complex technical issues across the WS teams and be able to collaboratively seek agreement across teams with differing goals and objectives. Prior experience performing software architecture with simulation software products is highly beneficial.
There are times when you will need to be willing to work a flexible schedule when required to support lab development and integration activities to meet program needs. Willing to travel occasionally within the United States if required to meet program needs. Travel up to 5% to Huntsville for Planning activities.
Plans, conducts, and coordinates software development activities. Designs, develops, documents, tests, and debugs software that contains logical and mathematical solutions to business/mission problems or questions in computer language for solutions by means of data processing equipment. Applies the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the development life cycle. Applies knowledge of computer hardware and software, subject matter to be programmed in business/mission applications, information processing techniques used, and information gathered from system users to develop software. Corrects program errors, prepares operating instructions, compiles documentation of program development, and analyzes system capabilities to resolve questions of program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls. Ensures software standards are met.
Basic Qualifications
Experience with programming languages such as C, C++
Real Time Operating System (RTOS) experience
Software Architecture experience
Standard teaming: Ability to work with multi-disciplined teams
Desired Skills
Knowledge of Agile Software Development
Ability to work in a collaborative and team-based environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of Model Base Systems Engineering (MBSE)
Previous experience designing to software requirements
Experience with full software life cycle development including SW design, architecture and integration & test
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Aerospace Engineering or other related degree program from an accredited college/university
Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $185400.00 - $344400.00

Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
