Standard Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Virtual Infrastructure & Storage Engineer to design, deploy, and maintain integrated virtualization and storage platforms that power our mission operations. This role bridges compute and storage layers, ensuring virtual machines, containers, and data services are delivered with high availability, performance, and scalability across on-premises data centers. Key responsibilities will include architecting and managing virtualization stacks (VMware vSphere) and associated storage fabrics (SAN, NAS); provisioning and optimizing storage resources; implementing automation and infrastructure for VM and volume lifecycle management; troubleshooting cross‑platform issues spanning compute, networking, and storage; collaborating with cybersecurity teams to align configurations with security baselines and audit requirements; monitoring system health, capacity, and performance; and maintaining documentation and runbooks. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in virtual infrastructure and storage systems, strong automation skills, and a commitment to delivering resilient, secure, and efficient enterprise platforms that directly support mission‑critical workloads.

The information below reflects the standard job description for this position:

Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience designing, deploying, and managing virtualized server environments (VMware vSphere, or Microsoft Hyper‑V)
  • 3+ years of hands-on administration of enterprise storage systems (NAS, SAN, or DAS) in mission-critical environments
  • Hands‑on experience with hypervisor clustering, resource allocation, and high‑availability/DR implementation
  • Familiarity with infrastructure automation and scripting for VM management (Python, Ansible)
  • Understanding of backup, recovery, and patching procedures for virtualized platforms
  • Proficient in storage networking protocols and experienced with volume management across multi-vendor platforms (NetApp, HPE, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot storage performance, connectivity, and data integrity issues; strong understanding of data protection fundamentals (snapshots, replication, backup integration)
  • Active Secret clearance is required

Desired Skills

  • Experience integrating on-prem virtual environments with public cloud platforms in hybrid architectures
  • Advanced expertise in software-defined storage (Ceph, VMware vSAN, AWS/Azure native storage) and seamless integration with virtualized/compute infrastructures
  • Proficiency in infrastructure-as-code tools (Ansible) for automated VM lifecycle management
  • Strong background in performance tuning, capacity planning, and SLA-driven resource allocation for virtualized workloads
  • Familiarity with container orchestration (Kubernetes, OpenShift) deployed on top of virtual infrastructure
  • Proven experience designing and testing disaster‑recovery and business‑continuity strategies for virtualized systems
  • Knowledge of software‑defined networking and advanced virtual network design
  • Relevant certifications or equivalent hands‑on expertise
  • Proven experience designing scalable storage architectures with automated provisioning, tiering, data reduction (compression/deduplication), and disaster recovery/business continuity strategies
  • Strong background in storage automation using Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell/CLI) and performance/tuning optimization across heterogeneous environments
