The Lockheed Martin Next Generation Interceptor (NGI) team is seeking a Sustainment Engineer Sr. – Maintenance Concepts & Supportability to work from our Huntsville, AL location.

This position supports the development and integration of missile maintenance concepts, technical procedures, and supportability solutions for the NGI missile defense system. The role focuses on applying practical missile maintenance knowledge to the development of in-silo maintenance capabilities, technical assessments, and system development activities.

The position will collaborate with Systems Engineering, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Reliability Engineering, and Product Support teams to ensure maintenance requirements and operational considerations are addressed throughout system development.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking a technically experienced professional with hands-on missile maintenance experience who can translate practical maintenance knowledge into clear, accurate, and executable technical procedures.

The ideal candidate understands military missile maintenance operations, can gather technical information from subject matter experts, interpret engineering documentation, and work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams. Experience gained through military service, government organizations, or the aerospace and defense industry is highly relevant.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintenance Concepts & Supportability

  • Develop and evaluate in-silo missile maintenance concepts, processes, and technical approaches, considering operational constraints, safety, equipment needs, and system requirements.

Technical Procedure Development

  • Gather and evaluate technical information from maintenance SMEs, engineering documentation, and equipment knowledge to develop, write, and revise maintenance procedures, work instructions, and supporting technical products.

  • Ensure maintenance documentation is accurate, repeatable, technically sound, and aligned with applicable requirements.

Maintenance Requirements & Verification

  • Support the identification and integration of missile maintenance requirements throughout system development.

  • Participate in technical reviews, maintenance demonstrations, and verification activities to evaluate maintenance feasibility and identify potential issues.

Cross-Functional Integration

  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering and other technical teams to address maintenance procedures, tooling, support equipment, and system interfaces.

  • Communicate maintenance challenges and recommend practical solutions to engineering and program stakeholders.

Maintenance Readiness & Improvement

  • Evaluate maintenance processes and operational considerations to identify risks, improve maintainability, and support long-term system readiness.

Basic Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience supporting the maintenance, inspection, repair, troubleshooting, or sustainment of military or DoD missile systems or associated missile support equipment.
  • Experience gathering technical information from subject matter experts (SMEs) and translating complex or undocumented maintenance processes into clear, accurate, and repeatable technical procedures, work instructions, or other technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience personally developing, writing, or substantially revising technical maintenance procedures, work instructions, or related technical documentation based on equipment knowledge, maintenance activities, or information obtained from subject matter experts.
  • Experience interpreting and applying technical manuals, engineering drawings, specifications, or military technical orders.
  • Familiarity with military maintenance practices, safety requirements, and configuration-controlled technical documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineering, maintenance, logistics, and other technical organizations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Desired Skills

  • Experience supporting land-based Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) systems, including Minuteman III, Sentinel/GBSD, or comparable missile programs.
  • Familiarity with missile launch facilities, silo-based missile systems, or associated ground support equipment.
  • Experience supporting missile maintenance planning, sustainment engineering, technical data analysis, or weapon system lifecycle management.
  • Familiarity with DoD maintenance technical orders, configuration management, and weapon system modification processes.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $85300.00 - $158300.00

  • Annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs may be offered depending on the position. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics.
  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
