Job Description
Job Title:  Systems Engineer, Reliability and Maintainability - Level 3
Posting Start Date:  11/3/26

Standard Job Description

We are seeking a Level 3 Maintainability Engineer to support the design, development, verification, and sustainment of complex aerospace systems. In this role, you will apply maintainability and supportability engineering principles to ensure products can be inspected, serviced, repaired, and restored efficiently throughout their operational life. You will work across systems, design, logistics, test, manufacturing, and customer teams to influence design decisions early; reduce lifecycle support burden; and improve operational availability, maintenance effectiveness, and affordability. You will develop practical solutions to complex maintainability and supportability problems, produce and defend technical analyses, integrate recommendations with product design and verification, and improve team outcomes through effective collaboration.

What you will be doing:
  • Evaluate system and equipment designs, maintenance concepts, and support strategies to identify factors that affect maintenance execution, including support equipment, personnel, technical data, training, spares, facilities, safety, and lifecycle cost.
  • Apply maintainability engineering methods to improve accessibility, diagnosability, fault isolation, repair time, modularity, interchangeability, human factors, and safe maintenance execution.
  • Perform Maintenance Task Analyses (MTAs) to define preventive and corrective maintenance tasks, task sequence, skill levels, manpower, elapsed time, tools, support equipment, consumables, access requirements, and operational constraints.
  • Collaborate with reliability, systems engineering, logistics, human factors, test, and sustainment organizations to maintain traceability among requirements, analyses, design features, and verification evidence.
Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. For positions that perform IT responsibilities, use E646, Systems Engr-IT.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline; or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of related engineering experience, typically including maintainability, logistics/supportability, systems engineering, test, or a related discipline.
  • Experience developing technical analyses, documenting assumptions and results, and communicating engineering recommendations to stakeholders.

Desired Skills

  • Experience independently developing maintenance task analyses, maintainability predictions, MTTR analyses, or maintainability verification plans.
  • Experience evaluating product designs for accessibility, fault isolation, repair time, modularity, interchangeability, diagnostics, or maintenance-induced risk.
  • Ability to communicate technical risk, assumptions, limitations, and recommendations clearly to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Experience developing model-based analysis workflows, automated traceability, data schemas, or reusable digital engineering assets.
  • Familiarity with GEIA-STD-0007 concepts, logistics product data, or supportability data integration.
