Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a Level 5 Systems Engineer to lead the design and implementation of advanced GNSS/SBAS solutions at onsite at our Fairfax, VA facility. We are seeking a highly specialized Systems Engineer with GNSS algorithm experience to define and optimize the mathematical models that ensure accuracy and strict safety-of-life integrity for high-precision applications. You will lead the team to complete algorithmic analysis, validation, and design for the program. You are the working leader for the analysis, design, and simulation of safety-critical algorithms for Satellite-Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS) solutions. The role involves applying rigorous systems engineering and reliable/secured networking techniques, ensuring compliance with industry standard development assurance guidelines, and delivering high reliability navigation capabilities for our commercial customers.
Other Major Responsibilities:
Subcontractor Engineering Support – Technical Oversight of a key subcontractor. Support to supply chain for subcontract technical oversight, review of subcontractor produced material (requirements documents, design material, safety related material, performance and Hazardously Misleading Information (HMI) analysis reports, Site Installation Plans (SIP), Site Acceptance Test (SAT) reports, test plans, procedures, verification, and reports). Review of proposals, generation of tech evals, etc. Support to relevant program working groups. Support for issue tracking, resolution and escalation. Technical coordination with task owners to ensure proper tracking and management.
Cross Disciplinary Coordination of LMS E&T staff tasking/status, work with LMS CE and subcontractor Systems Engineering Manager (SEM) to work through issues/blockers across the team. Support LMS Office of the Chief Engineer (OCE) activities (e.g. performance reporting, meetings, actions, program reviews, etc.) as needed. Support to modification request / proposal activities. Working with contracts to ensure alignment of prime contract technical requirements across the program organization. Support to program management to bridge technical and programmatic needs as required. Support to internal/external meetings as required.
Travel: Up to > 15 % travel (mostly international and some domestic)

Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. For positions that perform IT responsibilities, use E646, Systems Engr-IT.
Basic Qualifications
Expert level PNT/GNSS domain experience (or other similar algorithmically intensive and safety of life systems)
Experience developing, designing, modeling, simulationg and refining core SBAS algorithms
Background in analyzing ionospheric modeling challenges
Experience with safety of flight /life rated programs
Experience technical lead / responsible engineer for a large multi-subcontractor Ground Segment development program
Subcontractor Responsible Engineer (RE) experience
System SEIT experience of complex SW/HW systems
Able to communicate in written and verbal form in a virtual, global team
Proven ability to brief design details and challenges to Engineering Chiefs, PMO, and up to Program Director level as necessary
Desired Skills
Experience with Assurance Standards – Apply SAE ARP4754A, SAE ARP4761, RTCA DO 178C, DO 278A, and/or DO 254 as appropriate to define and evaluate safety-of-life metrics. Ensure safety, reliability, and airworthiness.
Engineering Management Experience
Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $145100.00 - $269500.00
