Standard Job Description

The Lockheed Martin Artificial Intelligence Center (LAIC) is seeking an experienced Data Platform Engineer to support the AI Factory team and product portfolio. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Kubernetes and database administration, and will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our data platform, including data pipelines. You will work closely with our engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of our data systems with our applications and services.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain our data platform, including data pipelines
  • Develop and implement Kubernetes-based data infrastructure, including deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications
  • Administer and optimize databases, including relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB)
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines and maintain highly available vector databases, such as Weaviate
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate data systems with applications and services
  • Ensure data security, compliance, and governance, including data encryption, access control, and auditing
  • Monitor and optimize data platform performance, including latency, throughput, and resource utilization
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including architecture diagrams, technical guides, and operational runbooks

 

Responsible for development of IT solutions across all components of software systems through design, integration, implementation and support. Proficient in infrastructure, security, software development, database management systems, and systems integration. Develops using agile processes and common technology stacks.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in data platform engineering, with a focus on Kubernetes and database engineering
  • Strong experience with containerized applications
  • Strong understanding of data pipelines or data storage (ex. data ingestion, processing, and storage)
  • Strong programming skills or software development in languages such as Python, Java, or GoLang
  • Experience with development methodologies and version control systems such as Git

Desired Skills

  • Experience with database administration, including high availability PostgreSQL architecture
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK
  • Familiarity with patterns behind event-based observability systems, including queuing, batching, persistence, retries, and event replay
  • Familiarity with cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS RDS, GCP Cloud SQL).
  • Familiarity with logging and monitoring best practices for databases and applications.
  • Familiarity with vector databases, such as Weaviate, Milvus, or ChromaDB
  • Creative and resourceful when it comes to problem-solving

GeoZone Definition: GeoZones are geographic groupings created by Lockheed Martin to align compensation ranges with regional labor markets and cost-of-labor differences across the United States. Locations are assigned a Geo Zone based on the primary work location of the role. 

  • Full-time salary range (GEOZONE 1): $122600.00 - $227600.00 
    • Includes metropolitan areas such as Sunnyvale CA; Pal Alto, CA; New York City metropolitan area; Newark, New Jersey; etc.
  • Full-time salary range (GEOZONE 2): $110300.00 - $204900.00 
    • Includes metropolitan areas such as Denver, CO; King of Prussia, PA; Stratford, CT; Moorestown, NJ; etc.
  • Full-time salary range (GEOZONE 3): $98100.00 - $182100.00
    • Includes metropolitan areas such as Dallas–Fort Worth, TX; Orlando, FL; Grand Prairie, TX; Marietta, GA; etc.
  • Full-time salary range (GEOZONE 4): $88300.00 - $163900.00

PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
