Standard Job Description

What We're Doing

The coolest jobs on this planet… or any other… are with Lockheed Martin!

At Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems in Owego, NY, we develop mission‑critical embedded software and advanced technologies for complex defense and aerospace systems. Our software supports safety‑critical avionics, mission computers, embedded processing, and secure systems where reliability and performance matter.

The Work

As a Level 2 Software Engineer, you’ll get hands-on experience across the software lifecycle while working alongside experienced engineers to build the next generation of mission computers for safety-critical avionics systems. You’ll help turn ideas and requirements into reliable, flight-ready software and see your work move from development to integration, test, and certification.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Design, develop, integrate, test, debug, and maintain product line application software for aircraft navigation systems.
  • Analyze requirements and develop software solutions that run on Real‑Time Operating Systems and hypervisors such as LynxOS, Windriver VxWorks, or Green Hills Integrity.
  • Perform hands‑on software/hardware integration, verification, troubleshooting, and system‑level debugging using target hardware and laboratory instrumentation.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and develop creative solutions.
  • Apply software engineering tools, processes, and best practices.
  • Support integration, verification, and validation activities in a lab environment.
  • Produce technical documentation and software artifacts to support quality and safety certification.
  • Learn new technologies and take on increasingly complex challenges.
  • Support modern DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD and automated testing.
  • Participate in peer reviews and technical design discussions.
  • Bring fresh ideas that can improve products and processes.

Who We Are

RMS Owego brings together software, systems, hardware, and integration expertise to develop advanced mission solutions. Our engineers work with real mission hardware in onsite laboratories, taking software from architecture and design through integration, test, and delivery.
